Landscape Structures makes playgrounds. But not just any playgrounds — they make the best playgrounds in the world. Because they do it the right way and for the right reasons. They know that kids need to be challenged. They believe in bringing children of all abilities together. They know that real development — physical, emotional, mental — happens on the playground.
Over the course of fifteen years, we helped Landscape Structures grow by helping them articulate who they are. Because we are all Shaped By Play.

How do you stand out in the suddenly-crowded hard seltzer market? Just ask Squoze, the fresh new release from Sociable Cider Werks. They took care of the delicous part by making a refreshing hard seltzer from real fruit juice. We took care of the rest by wrapping it in a vintage-yet-timeless, simple-yet-bold design. Something as delicious as the drink itself.

Way to Grow is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit that focuses on early childhood education. They know that every $1 invested in early childhood education returns $11 in the long run. That’s why they take a methodical, hands-on approach — they don’t just tutor the children, they work with the whole family to ensure every child has an opportunity to succeed.

As a retail healthcare provider, Target is partnering with payers, physicians and pharmaceutical companies to offer their guests a simpler approach to healthcare. We developed the creative platform and designed communication materials to help Target build awareness of their healthcare offerings, as well as credibility with those key partners.

When Clif wanted to refresh their line of granola, they came to us. Clif has a strong reputation, largely based on the Clif Bar — the snack you grab when you want to conquer a mountain. Well, sometimes you just want to conquer the day. So they wanted to show that Clif granola is an everyday snack for everyday energy.
They wanted to leverage the Clif name, reputation and expertise. But they also wanted something accessible. The result was a clear, bold system that pops off the shelf.

During my tenure at Little, my longest-standing client was the Minnesota Historical Society. Yes, it was on-and-off, but I still count it.
There are two reasons this has been one of my favorite clients. Number one: the people are wonderful. They’re smart and talented and want to do things the right way — inclusively and respectfully.
Number two: the challenges were fascinating. This will come as no surprise, but many of the sites and figures in Minnesota’s history ain’t all sunshine and lollipops. I always appreciated the challenge of trying to capture the duality of a person or site.
If you want to hear why the 1968 Project is one of my all-time favorite projects, just ask me. (Let’s be honest, no one has read this whole thing anyway.)

When Post wanted to revitalize Barbara’s, they came to us. Barbara’s includes the beloved Puffins and Snackimals as well as the core Barbara’s cereals. Sadly, the work shown here is a dead concept. OK, maybe it’s not sad. The end result is great. But this stuff was pretty damn fun, too.

Ecolab may very well save the world. They help make the world safe and cleaner. For food. For water. For us.
They do amazing work all around the globe. And when they wanted to share some of their stories, they came to us. We helped establish their publication to feature their employees and the important work they’re doing. You know, saving the planet-type stuff.

I don’t show a lot of dead concepts here, but I thought this one was pretty cool. This was part of a PepsiCo to push 7Up as a food pairing for their international markets. Most of this work shown was for the Pakistani market. Biryani with 7Up? I’d eat that.

Bountifield International is a Minnesota-based nonprofit dedicated to helping small farmers in Africa. In these rural settings, women are the primary farmers. And by supporting these small-harvest farmers with that is sustainable, and appropriate, they can feed their families, communities and the world.

Interest for Others set out to make big change. How? By collecting small change. The goal was to give everyone with a bank account a simple way to donate their earned interest to a non-profit of his or her choice. The donation was nominal — the average interest payment is around $6.00, but collectively the impact could add up to hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
Sadly, the organization closed its doors this year. However, I still like to show the work because of the “aha” design moment and the simplicity of the final product.

Briggs and Morgan was an old school law firm. For 135 years, they've helped shape Minnesota through iconic clients and partnerships — the Twins, the Vikings, 3M, the Guthrie, Walker Art Center and many more. But it was time to grow the brand and reflect their talent and attitude. They are trusted individuals, unified by their desire to move forward in lockstep with their customers and each other. And it was time to honor their legacy of progress.

Who doesn't want to write a little love song for their sweetheart? That was the goal with this project — to give everyone an opportunity to spread a little love. We developed a site where people could do just that. They could select a music style, customize the lyrics and even build their own avatar. After all, not everyone is a musician. But everyone has a song in their heart they want to share.
Was this a big, sexy client with a big, sexy budget? No. But I still love this project. I loved the process of problem-solving. I love that it started with an idea and we had to figure out how to make it work. I love that in one single project, we were able to incorporate songwriting, recording, website development, illustration, animation and letterpress. How often do you get to do that?

This is a bunch of random stuff that I like. Posters for the most part. Some personal projects. Some killed client concepts. Whatever. I still like ‘em.
